NOTICE OF INTENT TO CO-OPT COUNCILLOR

Notice is hereby given pursuant to section 87(2) of the Local Government Act 1972 that a by-election has not been requested in respect of the casual vacancy on Cotgrave Town Council caused by the resignation of Cllr S Gardner.

The Town Council will now fill the vacancy by Co-option.

Any person interested in filling this vacancy is invited to give notification in writing of their willingness and eligibility to be considered for co-option, to the Town Clerk. The notification should include relevant background information that will assist the Town Council in forming an opinion as to a candidate’s suitability for co-option. Notification must be received by no later than Noon on Monday 3rd March 2021.

The co-option will be considered at the council meeting on Wednesday 10th March 2021.  Candidates will have the opportunity to speak at the meeting prior to the selection process.

To qualify, applicants must be over 18 and their name should appear on the current electoral register for Cotgrave or should during the whole of the twelve months preceding the relevant date have resided in or within three miles of the town, or the applicant’s only place of work during the whole of the twelve months preceding the relevant date should be in the town. The applicant must not be disqualified from standing as a Councillor. Please refer to Local Government Act 1972 sections 79-81. Applicants must NOT canvass members of the Council.
